A 19-year-old is in critical condition tonight after a run-in with Baltimore County Police. Tonight, family members argue that the officers went to far.
The family of Devontay Nichols is accusing Baltimore County Police of brutally beating the teenager this morning. At this hour, Nichols remains in critical condition of GBMC.
Early this morning, police say Nichols became combative as they tried to arrest him for domestic violence. As officers struggled with Nichols, they say he began reaching for something under his clothes. That prompted police to hit Nichols in the arm with their flashlight. The officer says he missed and struck Nichols in the head.
Nichols family says they believe officers used excessive force and they now fear Nichols is going to die. Antoinette Turner, Nichols mother, said," my son is laying up here like this from a police officer beating him with a flashlight in his head and he may be on his [rip] bed."
Police took Nichols to GBMC where his condition deteriorated. At this point, it is questionable whether Nichols will survive.
