Howard Madkiff has filed a law suit against a Florida blood bank for issuing HIV infected blood used in his blood transfusion while he under went coronary bypass surgery in 2010.
As Daily Mail reports, allegedly the HIV infected blood was donated to LifeSouth Blood Community Blood Center by a John Doe on October 14, 2010, four days before Madkiff was admitted into Baptist Medical Center where his surgery was conducted and the blood was used.
It was not until May of 2011 that LifeSouth discovered the HIV infected blood and notified Baptist Medical of their discovery.
Madkiff was diagnosed HIV positive the following month.
Madkiff’s attorneys have not specified exactly what damages they seek although have commented that they would like them to be above the minimum required.
