Balpreet Kaur, a practicing Sikh woman and Ohio State college student, responded to a photo of her sporting facial hair on popular website Reddit, with a comment devoid of shame and full of pride.
According to NY Daily News, Kaur put her beliefs and her appearance into perspective for those who were ignorant of Sikh practices, saying “Yes, I realize that my gender is often confused and I look different than most women. However, baptized Sikhs believe in the sacredness of this body.”
Internet users then praised the young woman for her response, and expressed their full support of her practices.
In an unexpected but appreciated turn of events, the poster of the photo issued an apology; claiming that Reddit is a website where people should post interesting, socially relevant, and humorous pieces, as opposed to posts that ridicule people for being who they are.
