David Jimenez lost his leg after it was crushed by the marble crucifix he visited daily to pray to.
After she made a full recovery, Jimenez offered to clean the cross to show his gratitude.
Jimenez’s attorney told CBS New York that the 600-pound statue was supported by a single screw in the base. “The screw was useless. The screw is useless. It supported no anchoring system,” Kitson said.
Jimenez’s legs were mangled so badly doctors had to amputate them below the knee, meaning the devout Catholic is unable to work.
The church pastor told reporters that they had raised over $7000 from parishioners to support the family, however the insurance money had been less forthcoming.
