A mother’s irresponsible acts led to tragedy on a extremely hot summer day.

In Cleveland, Tennessee, River Bates, 3, and Leland Bates, 5, died of hyperthermia after being left unattended on a 101 degree day by their mother, Tasha Bates.


According to the Cleveland Daily Banner, River Bates arrived at the hospital with a core body temperature near 109 degrees.

Tasha claims to have left the two brothers outside for 45 minutes on a Slip n’ Slide water toy, but investigators believe that the children were trapped in a confined place inside the Bates’ residence.

She is being charged with first degree murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse/endangerment, four counts of manufacture of methamphetamine, and one count of promotion of meth manufacture.
