According to 9 News, Carly McKinney was fired from her job as a high school math teacher at Overland High School in Aurora, Colorado for posting half-naked photos of herself on her Twitter while also writing postings about using drugs at school and calling students jail bait. While the Twitter page has been taken down, the damage has been done as the 23-year-old as placed on paid administrative leave on Tuesday for her explicit Twitter posts.
Carly McKinney wrote many racy posts on her Twitter page. One of those posts stated that she was, “Naked. Wet. Stoned.” Another post of hers read, “Watching a drug bust go down in the parking lot. It’s funny cuz I have weed in my car in the staff parking lot.”
Cherry Creek School District officials have launched a full investigation into whether the teacher brought drugs on the campus. While officials state that the first amendment allows the freedom of speech, including on social media, they also stated that they train all of their employees about the use of social media and request that they not post anything they would not want to put on a classroom blackboard.
Director of communications for Cherry Creek School District Tustin Amole told reporters that placing Carly McKinney on administrative leave is not a disciplinary action, but a routine measure that needs to be taken while she is under investigation.
