Nine “humiliated” former contestants of American Idol are suing the show, calling it a racist institution as they insist they were targeted by producers because they were black men with a criminal record and could be (and were) easily exposed and used as grounds for expulsion from the show.
Attorney James Freeman will represent the nine plaintiffs in the case, according to New York Daily News.
Freeman submitted a letter to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, informing them of his intention to sue the blockbuster reality show.
Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of Idol, calls the lawsuit “ridiculous.”
