Thousands of students at the University of California - Santa Cruz gather on campus on April 20 every year to celebrate '4-20' by lighting up marijuana at 4.20pm.
One student went farther than most on Saturday when he unveiled a massive two-pound joint.
In most states, possession of that much marijuana would be a felony punishable by several years in prison.
In California, anyone with a prescription can legally possess up to an ounce of the drug.
So, instead of arresting the owner, campus police officers simply confiscated it.
A video shows an officer carrying the four-foot-long joint. The owner of the joint is furious.
'You lied to me, too. Dude you're a liar. You're a liar.... I can't wait to see you in court. I can show how you're harassing me,' he says.
'We're going to court, man. We're totally going to court.'
The two-pound joint is possibly worth $5,000 to $6,000.
Even the poster of the video - who booed police for carrying away the joint - says the owner of the massive marijuana roll was asking for trouble.
'This guy had a booth set up to unveil this guy, shouldn't have drawn so much attention man!' the YouTube user writes.
Campus administrators at UC-Santa Cruz, 75 miles south of San Francisco, have long pleaded with students not to partake in the annual marijuana holiday.
The term 4-20 is a reference to the California penal code designation for marijuana.
However, because the gathering is so large and because of the state's marijuana laws, authorities are largely powerless to stop the gathering.
