BALTIMORE (WJZ/SUN) –More than 30 people have been shot in Baltimore City in just seven days. Police are investigating a fatal morning shooting and a Thursday night triple shooting that also killed one person.
Mike Schuh has more on the bloodshed on the city streets.
Baltimore City Police confirms one of the three women shot Thursday night has died and a man shot Friday morning has also died.
That brings the total to 36 shot and 14 dead since last Friday in Baltimore.
Friday’s shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. at Bennett Place and Fremont Avenue in West Baltimore.
Thursday night, three women were shot at Elmora Avenue and St. Cloud. It all happened just after 9 p.m. Our media partner, the Baltimore Sun, reports one is in critical condition and the other has been treated and released. One woman succumbed to her injuries.
This, despite an aggressive effort by police to fight a recent crime spike.
Homicide detectives are on the scene due to the severity of the shooting. The commissioner also arrived at the scene around 11 p.m. Thursday.
He says the shooting is the result of a neighborhood dispute.
Police say they do have a suspect description that’s been handed out to officers.
About 50 to 100 people were out on the streets at the time of the shooting.
Police say they need those witnesses to come forward with vital information.
Commissioner Anthony Batts briefed the media, saying:
“It sounds like a neighborhood dispute. We have had units out here. We didn’t see anything that looked like gang members, we didn’t see anything that looked like it was out of the norm. We had kids who were playing out here. And from the air, from the ground, from us being in this area we did everything to keep this safe. This was a conflict that took place between it appears to be residents of the area.”
Thirty-six people have now been shot in the city of Baltimore since June 21.
Police have added extra patrols to the street. In fact, the commissioner was on foot patrol in East Baltimore.
