15-year old Sarah Rivera, a seventh grader at middle School 302 in the Bronx, was hit in the leg by a bullet near her home on Kelly Street on Saturday night, June 1st, after hearing three gunshots and, seeing that a toddler in a baby carriage was in harm’s way, ran to move the carriage; as she did she was shot in the leg.
Several adults, along with the baby’s father, had already jumped to safety.
According to The Daily News, Rivera, who wants to be a doctor, did not regret her actions even though they landed her in the hospital, saying “If I would never have gotten over there, the baby would have got shot.”
Doctors expect her to make a full recovery although they will leave the bullet slug in her leg for now.
