A child died on her birthday from a horrible accident.
Emilee Bates, died on her 13th birthday from a gunshot wound in the stomach which she received when a rifle her step-brother, Austin McCord, 19, was cleaning discharged a live round; the boy notified police by setting off a home alarm.
According to The Burleson Star, the 13-year old was air-lifted to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Grief counselore were sent to Loflin Middle School, which Bates attended.
No charges are expected; the incident is regarded as an accident.
