A 29-year-old Lake Worth man was arrested Wednesday night after police say he crashed his car with his son in the backseat as he tried to flee from an officer.
Alexander Webster was arrested at about 8 p.m. on charges of fleeing from an officer and child neglect, a village police arrest report said. He was released from the Palm Beach County Jail just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday after he posted $12,000 bail.
A village officer was parked near Corrigan Court and Lakewood Road on Wednesday night, when he saw a silver Chevy that failed to stop at the intersection.
The officer followed the car south on Corrigan Court until it stopped at a stop sign near Lake Worth Road, the report said.
The car then headed west on Lake Worth Road and tried to cut through three lanes of traffic to get away from the officer, the report said. The car tried to turn north onto Edwards Avenue but lost control and crashed into a hedgerow, the report said.
Webster tried to flee on foot, but the officer got out of his car and drew his pistol at Webster, ordering him to the ground, the report said. Webster told the officer his 6-year-old son was in the backseat.
After his arrest, Webster told officers he fled because he thought his driver license was suspended, the report said. When police ran his license through a computer, however, they learned it was valid
