The horrific incident began when Doines Espinal, 31, of the Bronx, who was driving a lime green outer-borough taxi, side-swiped the Honda Pilot SUV the victim was in on the northbound entrance of the New England Thruway from the Pelham Parkway shortly before 4 a.m., cops say. Katherine German, 20, was the mother of a newborn she shared with her alleged killer, sources say.
Police say a man driving a lime-green outer borough taxi ran the SUV the woman was driving with off the highway and then stabbed her repeatedly.
A killer cabbie stalked and fatally stabbed his helpless ex-girlfriend early Wednesday in a brutal finish to a high-speed Bronx highway chase and crash, cops said.
Katherine German, 20, was pinned inside a crumpled SUV when her former flame repeatedly plunged a knife into her body as another male friend stood nearby, cops said.
Minutes earlier, the homicidal hack had slammed his speeding cab into the SUV, sending it sailing off the highway, officials said.
The lethal lover’s quarrel started when cabbie Doines Espinal, 31, of the Bronx, spotted the mother of his infant daughter leaving a Bronx hotel with the SUV’s driver, police sources said.
Catherine German, 20, was stabbed repeatedly.
Espinal shared a violent history with his victim. The cabbie was previously arrested for assaulting the Bronx woman, who had an order of protection against him, the sources said.
It was unclear if the order was still in effect, the sources said. The suspect and the victim were the parents of a 2-month-old baby, according to a relative.
Debora Rosado, 40, reacts to hearing that her stepbrother was arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend.
Authorities said Espinal was outside the Paradise Hotel when German exited a room with Jose Jiminez, 28, of Yonkers, around 4 a.m.
The victim died in her vehicle and her alleged attacker stayed at the scene of the gruesome crime, police say.
The two climbed into the SUV and drove off, with Espinal giving chase inside his lime green outer-borough taxi.
The cabbie slammed into the Honda Pilot SUV during the high-speed chase, sending the bigger vehicle hurtling over a concrete barrier at the northbound entrance to the New England Thruway from the Pelham Parkway.
The SUV hurtled over a concrete barrier after being hit by a cab.
The vehicle landed on its side on a bike path that runs along the highway, police said.
Espinal then exited his cab and stabbed the woman over and over, police said. German, who never made it out of the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Colleagues say the driver of the lime green cab blamed the woman for getting his license suspended.
The alleged attacker stayed at the scene of the gruesome crime until police arrived. He was taken into custody, and charges were pending early Wednesday.
Co-workers at the Kiss Car Service in the Bronx said the suspect was a longtime employee who followed his father into the business.
The conflict reportedly began when cabbie Doines Espinal, 31, of the Bronx, saw Catherine German leaving a hotel with the SUV driver.
SUV driver Jiminez escaped injury when his vehicle flipped and declined medical attention at the scene, cops said.
Debora Rosado, 40, a relative of Espinal, said the former couple lived with his mother until May — when she kicked them out. She thought the pair was planning a move to Florida.
“He’s had his problems in the past, but he’s never been this angry or violent,” said Rosado. “I can’t believe it.”
