“We picked up his image on our camera and could see he was carrying something,” said the U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson.
U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a Canadian man in a scuba suit who had tried to swim across the St, Clair River near Marine City, Michigan, in an attempt to smuggle 8 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
After Border Patrol agents received a tip about a man swimming across the river, they used surveillance cameras and picked up the man’s image; they also noticed he was carrying a “dry bag” behind him.
They apprehended the man and found the marijuana in a PVC cylinder.
According to the Macomb Daily, U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Kris Grogan has never heard of an incident before where someone tried to smuggle drugs into the country with the use of scuba gear.
