The school should have known better since the child died on their class field trip.
A staff member from Brooklyn’s Prospect Heights International High School called Jonas Pierre, the father of 16- year old Jean Fritz Pierre to discuss his son’s horrible attendance record, not realizing that the man’s only son had died from drowning last June on a school field trip to Bear Mountain State Park.
The heartbroken father responded to the insensitive call: “I think, why are you calling, why are you telling me this?…Don’t you know my son is dead?”
Although the child’s death has been ruled an accident, Jonas Pierre has filed two lawsuits against the school.
According to The New York Daily News, the Department of Education has said it will make sure that Jonas Pierre receives no more calls in future.
