Apparently he needed the money to pay his MENSA dues.
57-year old Daniel Noehl of Iowa City called the police looking for help getting paid for an illegal drug deal.
He called them “to report he had sold some of his prescription medication to a friend who had not paid him,” and called them three or four more times to see why they were taking so long in responding to his complaint.
He explained to police later that he had not realized it was illegal to sell prescription drugs or he would “have sold them a long time ago when I was on drugs.”
WQAD reports that the police complaint against Noehl indicates he told them he had smoked cocaine four days earlier and showed them his crack pipe.
He was arrested and charged with a prescription drug offense and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
