61-year old Alfreda Giedrojc, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, allegedly waited until her husband Boleslaw and her son-in-law, Joe Summers, left her suburban home to help a relative fix up his house before she took out a sledgehammer and brutally beat her 6-month old granddaughter, Vivien Summers, who had been left in her care.
When she realized the child was not dead, she got a carving knife and slit the child’s throat.
According to ABC Local, her husband came home to discover what his wife had done and got the infant to the hospital where she was declared dead.
Giedroic was arrested and charged with first degree murder; she and her husband have been provided with polish speaking interpreters.
