Two abandoned dogs have finally found a happy ending after a hard beginning.
Jeffrey and Jermaine, 8-month-old brother pit bulls, were found abandoned on the streets of West Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago, and were taken to a local no-kill shelter Operation Ava, where they have now been adopted by a loving family after becoming internet sensations.
The staff at the shelter named the brothers and gave them medical care for the cuts, mange and malnourishment the two were suffering from, reports Philly.com.
Jeffrey is also blind in one eye and can potentially see shadows in the other. To compensate, Jermaine has become his brother’s guide; Jeffrey leans his head on his brother’s back as they walk.
A SPCA volunteer posted a picture of the boys cuddling and sleeping together on Facebook, which drew over 3.2 million hits in just two days and led to over 10,000 people, from Australia to Ethiopia, to call and fill out applications to adopt the two boys.
The shelter had some criteria including for the dogs to go to a local family capable of covering food and vet bills, especially for a special needs pet, and the shelter felt the brothers would fare better in a home without children.
Jonathan Hochman and Veronica McKee, of Springfield, PA, both 44, fit the bill perfectly. With no children, the two pups will only be joining the family’s talkative cat Blabbus.
