Tommy Barber of Fort Pierce, Florida has been blind for thirteen years, but that did not stop him from rushing into a burning apartment to save a woman’s life.
He was walking in his apartment complex with his friends, Susan Laney when the pair smelled smoke and realized that it was coming from an apartment across from Barber’s; they found a fire extinguisher and rushed in to find Diane Marshall asleep in the burning apartment.
They managed to put out the fire, with Laney aiming the hose and Barber pulling the pin and squeezing the aparatus.
According to WPBF, Barber does not think his being blind should be the issue: “Whatever the disability may be, just give it your best, and don’t give up.”
