Megan Mahoney, coach accused of having sex with student, was once one of Staten Island's finest HS athletes

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Megan Mahoney is no stranger to the spotlight.

Almost a decade before allegations the 24-year-old former Moore Catholic assistant basketball coach and gym teacher had sex with a male student on at least 30 occasions thrust her into the news, Ms. Mahoney's prowess on the court as a high school and college student athlete generated scores of headlines.

Here is a list of some of her accomplishments:

She was a two-time winner of the Jaques Award as Staten Island's most outstanding high school female basketball player, claiming the honor as a St. Peter's student in 2006 and 2007, her junior and senior years.

She was a two-time Advance All-Star for basketball.

In 2007, she was named New York State Class A Basketball Player of the Year.

She had 1,376 career points, good for 27th on Staten Island's all-time high school girls scoring list.

After graduating St. Peter's, she attended Fordham for a year, where she was named the team's MVP as a freshman. She was the Atlantic-10 freshman of the year and the team's leading (15.4 ppg) scorer.

Ms. Mahoney transferred to Wagner College in 2009, where she crossed the 1,000-point milestone for her college career.
