Iggy Azalea has waded in on Beyoncé's 'Becky' controversy in a rather confusing way.
While the Beyhive are decoding themes of infidelity on the singer's new album Lemonade and hypothesising about who the referenced "Becky with the good hair" is, Iggy has taken issue with the choice of name.
The Aussie rapper has been in conversation with fans on Twitter and claims that the name Becky has been used derogatorily against her in the past and that it 'generalises races.
"dont ever call me a becky," she responded to one fan.
"and by the way, this is not bey shade. i love her and the album. but my name is iggy, and you will all call me that," she clarified.
When a fan labelled Iggy racist after she tweeted "you would not be down if i started calling all black men "deshawns", Iggy responded: "girl BYE. do you know how many time ppl have called me BECKY? it didnt have any kind of positive intention behind it. dont start.
"generalizing ANY race by calling them one sterotypical name for said race. i personally dont think is very cool, the end."
"Dont call all asian women 'ming lee' dont call white women 'becky' dont call black women 'sha nay nay'
Iggy Azalea
"anyone who cant see the point there, is not someone im very worried about. it applies to all humans and all races.
"the whole becky thing "give me that becky" comes from white womens supposed love for blow jobs. so excuse me but, i dont want to be called a generalized name that gained populairty as a way to describe oral sex and then generally white women. no thanks."
When someone questioned whether Iggy had listened to Beyoncé's album, she responded: "i have heard it, and i love the whole album."
