A high school teacher in Hale County was arrested Tuesday amid allegations she had sex with a student.
Courtney Wallace, 28, is being held in the Hale County Jail, said District Attorney Michael Jackson. She is charged with one count of a school employee having sex with a student under the age of 19, which is a felony.
Wallace is a science teacher at Greensboro High School. Jackson said she was involved in a relationship with a 17-year-old male student. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed, he said. "It's sad,'' Jackson said.
According to the school's website, Wallace is a Maryland native but has lived in Alabama for the past 12 years. She received her B. S. of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama.
Efforts to reach school officials weren't immediately available. This story will be updated as more information is released.
