A man trying to collect a $400 debt accidentally shot and killed a pet Dalmatian after he forced his way into a Brooklyn home, cop sources said Monday. The gunman remains on the loose.
Maria was in a cage in her owner’s Brownsville home on Watkins St. by Hegeman Ave. at about 10:10 a.m., when the 25-year-old shooter forced his way inside.
“He actually tried to kill me,” said Devin Cambridge, 27, Maria’s owner. “He thought I got hit but it wasn’t me, it was my dog. You heard a cry.”
Cambridge and the shooter know each other, and he borrowed money from the man a few months back, police sources said.
Cambridge said he had paid off most of what he owed, but was still $400 in the hole.
Cambridge’s brother and cousin were also home when the shooter pushed his way in, he said. Maria, was just 2.
“She was a faithful dog," he said.
