A 22-year-old Beaumont man has been charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Kera Teel and her unborn daughter, Kyndal.
Jared Javon Bias turned himself in to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility Wednesday night for an unrelated charge of hindering apprehension. Bond on that charge is set at $1 million. He was served with the capital murder warrant at the jail and there is no bond with this charge, Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley said.
Police hope to make more arrests.
Atayanna Asia Nicole Douglas, 17, of Beaumont, was arrested on three charges of aggravated robbery that police believe are related to the capital murder of Teel and her baby. Her bonds total $1.5 million.The Beaumont teen was picked up in Lake Charles and brought back to face charges, according to police.Douglas is booked at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on three counts of aggravated robbery. Her bond is set at $500,000 for each count.
Numerous tips have been coming in regarding the case and police continue to investigate.
“We realize people are frustrated and not understanding the direction of the investigation and the amount of time it takes but this is a capital murder case and we are going to be thorough,” Riley said. “Where media will see this as a one-time thing and go to the next story, there are people under arrest and we still have a trial so justice is served. It’s not over when an arrest is made. Our first priority is not throwing all kinds of information out there and hurting the case but keeping the case solid and for justice for the family with not just a homicide case but every case.”
The capital murder case is high profile and the community is outraged over it and a lot of tips have come in.

Police received the call of shots fired around 1:50 a.m. June 6 at Sienna Apartment Homes, located at 6155 Sienna Trails.
When officers arrived the found Kera Teel, a 19-year-old Beaumont woman, in her car in the parking lot of the complex suffering from gunshot wounds. Teel was seven-months pregnant with a baby girl. Beaumont EMS arrived on scene and transported Teel to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where every possible effort was made to save her, and the life of her baby. Kera’s baby, Kyndal Jae Teel, was born at the hospital but passed away a short time later, according to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department.
Teel had taken her mother to a hospital in Galveston and were just returning from a long day of medical treatment when the shooting occurred. Teel’s mother was inside the vehicle during the incident but was not harmed.
Beaumont police served a capital murder warrant on 22-year-old Jared Javon Bias, also known as Bulldog.
Bias is one of the suspects that, police say, was involved in the capital murder of Kera Teel.

Judge Larry Gist set no bond for the capital murder charge.
Bias was served with the capital murder warrant at the jail.
Police say when Bias turned himself in, detectives had not spoken to him.
